Authentic Café Cubano
A bold and sweet Cuban espresso that packs a flavorful punch
Café Cubano, also known as Cuban espresso, is a rich and potent coffee beverage that's an integral part of Cuban culture. This recipe originated in Cuba and quickly became a staple in Cuban-American communities, especially in Miami.
The key to a perfect Café Cubano lies in its unique preparation method. Finely ground dark roast coffee is brewed using an espresso machine or stovetop espresso maker. The magic happens when a small amount of the first drops of espresso are vigorously whisked with sugar, creating a sweet, creamy foam called espumita. This foam is then topped with the rest of the espresso, resulting in a drink that's simultaneously strong, sweet, and smooth.
