Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons (30g) medium-dark roast coffee beans, freshly ground
- 1 whole star anise pod
- 1 dried fig, finely chopped
- 12 oz (355ml) filtered water, heated to 200°F
Instructions
- Place the pour-over dripper on your cup and insert the filter. Rinse the filter with hot water and discard the rinse water
- Add the ground coffee to the filter
- Place the star anise pod and chopped fig around the grounds
- Start your pour-over by adding just enough hot water to saturate the grounds (about 2 oz)
- Wait 30 seconds for the coffee to bloom
- Continue pouring water in a circular motion, maintaining the water level until you reach 12 oz
- Allow all water to drain through. Total brew time should be about 3-4 minutes
- Remove filter and enjoy immediately
Pro Tips
- Use fresh, whole star anise for the best flavor - ground anise can be too intense
- Choose soft, plump dried figs for optimal sweetness
- Grind your coffee just before brewing for the freshest taste
- Water temperature should be 200°F (93°C) for optimal extraction
