Equipment

  • Large jar or pitcher
  • Coffee filter
  • Fine-mesh strainer
  • Small saucepan
  • Measuring cups and spoons

Ingredients

  • 1 cup coarsely ground medium-dark roast coffee
  • 4 cups cold filtered water
  • 1 cup fresh blackberries
  • 4-5 fresh sage leaves
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • Ice cubes for serving
  • Additional blackberries and sage leaves for garnish

Instructions

  1. Combine ground coffee with cold water in a large jar. Stir gently and refrigerate for 12 hours
  2. Meanwhile, make the blackberry-sage syrup: Combine blackberries, sage leaves, honey, and 1/2 cup water in a small saucepan
  3. Simmer for 10 minutes, mashing berries gently. Strain and cool completely
  4. Strain the cold brew through a coffee filter twice
  5. For each drink, combine 3/4 cup cold brew with 2-3 tablespoons blackberry-sage syrup
  6. Serve over ice and garnish with fresh blackberries and sage leaves

Pro Tips

  • Use coarsely ground coffee for the best cold brew results
  • Make the blackberry-sage syrup ahead and store for up to a week
  • Fresh sage leaves work best - dried ones can be too intense
  • Strain the cold brew twice for the smoothest result
