Ingredients
- 30g medium-dark roast coffee beans, coarsely ground
- 500ml filtered water, just off boil (200°F)
- 2 tablespoons maple wood chips
- 3 tablespoons granulated sugar (for caramel)
- 1/4 teaspoon flaky sea salt
- 2 tablespoons water (for caramel)
Instructions
- Place maple wood chips in a small heat-safe container and light them until smoking
- Cover ground coffee in French press with smoke for 2 minutes
- Meanwhile, make burnt caramel by heating sugar in a small pan until dark amber
- Carefully add 2 tablespoons water to caramel and stir until smooth
- Add hot water to smoked grounds in French press
- Steep for 4 minutes, then press
- Add 1-2 teaspoons burnt caramel sauce to each cup
- Top with a pinch of flaky sea salt
